SVI.MED

Background and experience
SVI.MED. is a no profit organisation that was born in 2003 for supporting the processes of sustainable development of the territory, through the active collaboration with the School Institutions, Local, Regional and national bodies, public and private stakeholders in order to implement processes of sustainable development within the European Mediterranean space. The areas of expertise are: Sustainable Development; Economy and Environment; Industrial ecology (relationship among productive activities, employees and environment); Protection and Valorisation of cultural heritage, natural and environmental resources; Support to the cooperation and the development of Mediterranean Area; Formal and non formal Trainings. The main objectives are: To sustain the social and territorial cohesion; To contribute to the protection of the environmental resources and cultural heritage; To integrate competitiveness and protection of the environment; To research, monitor and guide local labor market trends; To promote, implement and organize vocational training initiatives; To strengthen the international cooperation; To open virtuous and sustainable debates on circular economy; To dialogue with Mediterranean Countries facing joint cultural and environmental challenges.
Svimed had a strong experience (more than 15 years) in participating directly to EU co-financed projects, further than a relevant CV in participation on EU co-financed projects as: MEDWAYCAP ENI CBC MED 2014/2020 “The MEDiterranean pathWAY for innovation CAPitalisation toward an urbanrural integrated development of non-conventional water resources” – on going; NAWAMED – ENICBC MED 2014/2020 “Nature Based Solutions for Domestic Water Reuse in Mediterranean Countries” – on going; ARISTOIL Capitalization Erasmus + 2014-2020 on going – training courses on olive oil benefits of polyphenols.

Svimed is located in Ragusa (Sicily-Italy), renowned for the agricultural productions mainly concentrated in the coastal zone, with a national record for the production of vegetables in greenhouses; moreover the Province of Ragusa is characterized by extension of cultivation of olive groves, production of olive oil, PDO Monti Iblei, and certified GPI– Geographic Protected Indication Sicily, a quality label. In the Province of Ragusa, aagriculture represents the main economic sector for local development and economic growth. In these last years Svimed was partners of several EU projects, focusing on innovation in agricultural sector, sustainable development, sustainable tourism, protection of natural resources.
AS for Training and Capacity building Svimed has been leading several typologies of projects: AGRO – Erasmus + 2014-2020 – lead applicant (closed) – exchange of good practices in agricultural system and innovative sustainable techniques for the environment; ECOLIVE Erasmus + 2014-2020 partner (closed) – training courses on organic olive oil; ARISTOIL –Med 2014/2020 (closed January 2020) exchange of good practices in olive oil production; AGRIPONIC – ENPI Italie-Tunisie 2007-13 – Partner (closed)- promotion of aeroponic technique in greenhouse, an innovative sustainable technique for the environment.
SVIMED has gained experience in local community work through facilitating the active participation of young people in addressing issues that affect them directly. In this frame SVIMED seeks: to promote innovation in the youth work practice and non-formal education, to identify assets and capacities that are latent within communities, to act as a centre for developing skills on circular economy issues, such as saving food and waste management and enable local young people’s travelling abroad through EU motilities and opportunities.

EU project officer and coordinator in the theme of circular economy, agriculture, energy efficiency. Good experience in regional development, training projects for SMEs, and management of EU funded projects. Main activities and responsibilities consist of: managing the proposal development of various EU funded projects (MED 2014/2020, ERASMUS +ENPI Italie-Tunisie, EUROPE for CITIZENS); dissemination of project activities and capitalization of results.
